Experience the Evolution

The 47th annual Threshermen & Collectors Show will celebrate 175 years of Case. Show dates are Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 10 through 13.

The show will host Case enthusiasts from all over and will be the base for the summer shows of the following organizations:

Members from the collectors clubs are discussing ideas to make the 175th anniversary celebration special. Some of the ideas include a display showing the 175 year evolution of Case, seminars, Ladies of Steam and special guests and a banquet and other get-togethers. Watch for announcements as plans become finalized. If you are a Case enthusiast, remember to register your exhibits early!

1918 50 HP Case Steam Engine

Rachel Greene and her children Jered, Noah and Hannah carry on the family tradition started by their father, Kevin Greene, now deceased. Their 1918 50 HP Case steam engine made its first appearance at the show in 1992 and has been the only Case engine to exhibit each year since. Visitors to the show have likely seen the engine powering the saw mill or a threshing machine.

Experience the Evolution - In the Field

Be a part of history! Sign up to be a part of the daily demonstration, "Experience the Evolution In the Field." This demonstration will compare the Case generations of tractors and implements doing the typical farming activities. This includes plowing, discing, planting, seeding, combining and baling, PLUS much more! Imagine seeing the generations from steam power to today's newest technology working in the field together!  We need Case participants with tractors and/or implements to participate. Case 110 Steam Engine

Coming to the 2017 show will be this 1912 Case 110 Horsepower Steam Tractor. It is owned by Jerred Ruble of Hanlontown, Iowa. According to Case, this was the "giant" size steam tractor. It was designed for use on big farms and ranches where the demand was for big power to haul the 10 and 12-bottom gang plows. It could carry 1945 lbs. of bituminous coal in the fuel bunker and 366 gallons of water in its water tank. The rear wheels have a diameter of 84 inches and the front wheels a diameter of 53 inches. The distance between axles is over 12 feet and at normal speed it could go 2.37 MPH. This is a big engine that you will want to see working out in the field.

1913 20-40 Case

Ethan Lenz of Manson, Iowa will exhibit this 1913 20-40 Case at this year's show. It made its first appearance at the show in 1999 and has returned every year since. He will also exhibit a rare 1917 Model 12-25 Case that is all original. We're thankful to Ethan and all of the exhibitors who take the time and effort to exhibit at our annual show!

1912 Case Automobile

Harold and Ann Musolf will make their way from Seattle, Wash. to attend the 175th Anniversary of J.I. Case. They will bring this beautiful 1913 Case 40-horse touring car which was at our show in 2011. They also plan to bring a 1912 40-horse in black. Ann says hers is the white one and Harold's is the black one. Visit with the Musolf and see their beautiful, rare Case automobiles while attending this year's show Aug. 10-13!

1912 30-60 Case

Check out this 1912 Case 30-60 horsepower tractor which will be exibited during the 2017 show. It is owned by Dennis Powers of Boone, Iowa.  He did a complete restoration and the tractor made its first showing at the Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in 2006. This was the first gas tractor in the Case line. Its power unit is a two-cylinder engine with a 10-inch bore and a 12-inch stroke. Normal speed was 350 RPMs. Only 493 of these tractors were built. Come and see it Aug. 10-13, 2017.

Scale Model Case Steam Tractor

Wally Beirnacki, who lives east of Toronto, Canada, plans to return to the show this year for the Case anniversary. Wally will exhibit his 1/4 scale 65-horse Case steam tractor. And, he says he will have many toys to run with it including a hay baler, water pump and generator. Wally says this tractor is built to the letter with no deviaitons and it has been certified by Case for authenticity. He is strictly a Case collector and serves as the vice president of the J.I. Case Heritage Foundation. Wally is 84 years old and he is just one of the many interesting exhibitors you will enjoy meeting at this year's show.

2017 Toy Collectible

This year’s collectible toy tractor is a Case DC-4 wide front, 1/16 scale die cast. The tractors are manufactured by SpecCast and each will include a serial number. This year, 100 tractors will be available. If you purchased a toy tractor last year, you may continue to purchase that number of tractor.

The #10 tractor will be included as a prize in the large tractor raffle, so if you purchase a ticket for that raffle, you are automatically included for a chance to win a toy tractor.

Tractors sell for $115 and will be available for purchase at the show or by contacting the Le Mars Toy Store at 546-4305 to pre-order.

2017 Tractor Raffle

The 2017 Tractor Raffle will be for a 1949 VAC. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. There will also be a raffle for a pedal tractor. The drawings will be held Sunday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. and you need not be present to win. All raffle proceeds support the annual show, building maintenance and grounds upkeep. Tickets can be purchased from any board member or by contacting the office at 712-843-2076.

New for 2017: The Threshermen Experience

New for 2017! Thursday, August 10 only: The Threshermen Experience. Learn about the life of a Thresherman through seminars, demonstrations and hands-on learning that will take you back to the early 1900s. Activities run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include:From Scythes to Silos, the early years of farming in Pocahontas and Buena Vista County, Carburation Basics, Our American Flag, Learn to be a Blacksmith, Spinning, School Program, Threshing, Become a Steam Engine Operator, Sewing-Then and Now, Kids-Learn how to drive a garden tractor, Learn to make a broom, Tatting and several Horse activities!
